Top 10 Consumer Service Companies To Invest In 2014

With its stock price already doubled in value over the last 12 months, is it time to back away from shares of Boston Scientific (BSX)? Cowen & Co. analyst Joshua Jennings doesn think so.

In a note published today, Jennings upgraded the medical device maker to Outperform for the first time since initiating coverage in 2011 at Market Perform, and set a price target of $14 a share, citing key new devices.

The advice had an impact on the stocks, which rose 4.2% to $11.82.

Boston has been on a roll for much of 2013, recovering from an eight-year funk caused by safety issues and recalls, a weak market for implantable defibrillators used to treat irregular heartbeats and the pressure put on medical device makers by the recession here and in Europe.

Barrons.com called it in August 2012 when writer David Englander advised that the stock was cheap at nearly $5.50 a share. But Jennings argues that Boston struggling implantable heart device and drug-coated stent businesses should recover over the next few years as the company launches critical new products.

But, to my mind, the biggest news of last week for the valuation of Cheniere actually came from Royal Dutch Shell (RDSB). Europe's biggest oil company announced that it would halt plans to build a $20 billion natural gas of liquids plant in Louisiana, even though the state of Louisiana had agreed on $112 million in subsidies. The project would have used cheap US natural gas to produce 140,000 barrels a day of liquid fuels normally made from oil. Royal Dutch Shell cited rising costs and uncertainty about oil and natural gas prices by the time the plant entered operation, in canceling the project.

Despite the economic recession, US remained one of the world's prevailing countries in the worldwide quick service restaurant market. The US fast food industry is anticipated to grow by 4% through 2014. The business sector is governed by increasing youthful populace and growing working class with higher expenditure capacity. Various restaurants are now focusing of various changes to stay ahead of their competitors. Most common changes that we notice is menu, ordering system (online), healthy food, etc. Panera Bread (PNRA) is one such restaurant, which is focusing on its food menu for more health conscious customers by knocking off various artificial additives in the food menu.

The company also noted that only one in three customers buys food while at Starbucks. A move in this direction could easily help the company compete with the likes of Panera (NASDAQ: PNRA  ) , a company whose stores have a similar feel, but -- for now -- much better food options.
