Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT  ) landed a sizable contract award from the U.S. Air Force Thursday, announced as part of the Department of Defense's daily summary of contracts awarded last night.

The contract in question, a $45.6 million modification to an existing contract, instructs Lockheed to perform "Rapid Repair and Response legacy repair" work on Lots 3, 4, and 5 of the C-5 Reliability Enhancement and Re-engining Program (RERP�).

The RERP program aims to modernize the Air Force's fleet of Lockheed C-5 Galaxy transport aircraft by upgrading them with new General Electric (NYSE: GE  ) F138-GE-100 jet engines -- an analog to the CF6-80C2 engines that power Air Force One, as well as many Boeing (NYSE: BA  ) 747 and 767 commercial jets. With better engines, the Air Force hopes to improve the C-5's "mission capability rate" by as much as 20 percentage points to 75%, allowing the planes to spend more time in service, and less time in the repair shop. It is also hoped that the upgraded planes will be able to carry more cargo (in excess of 270,000 pounds) and take off and land on shorter runways (as short as 5,000 feet).

Spectrum Brands' brands in the insect control category include Hot Shot, Cutter, Repel, Black Flag and TAT. Spectrum Brands' herbicides brands include Spectracide, Real-Kill and Garden Safe. Spectrum Brands markets and sells a range of electric shaving and grooming products under the Remington brand name, including men's rotary and foil shavers, beard and mustache trimmers, body trimmers and nose and ear trimmers, women's shavers and haircut kits. FGL

FGL is an i! ndirectly! wholly owned subsidiary of HGI, is a provider of annuity and life insurance products in the United States. Based in Baltimore, Maryland, FGL operates its annuity and life insurance operations in the United States through its subsidiaries FGL Insurance and FGL NY Insurance. FGL's products are annuities, deferred annuities and life insurance products (including fixed indexed universal life), which it sells, as of September 30, 2012, through a network of approximately 200 insurance marketing organizations (IMOs) representing approximately 19,000 independent agents and managing general agents. As of September 30, 2012, FGL had over 713,000 policyholders nationwide and distributes its products throughout the United States.

FGL's deferred annuities include fixed index annuities and fixed rate annuities. Fixed rate annuities include annual reset and multi-year rate guaranteed policies. Holders of universal life insurance policies earn returns on their policies which are credited to the policyholder's cash value account.

In addition to services provided by third-party asset managers, FGL outsources the following functions to third-party service providers, including investment accounting and custody, and underwriting administration of life insurance applications. FGL manages its outsourcing partners and integrates their services into its operations. FGL outsources its new business and existing policy administration for fixed indexed annuity and life products to Transaction Applications Group, Inc., a subsidiary at Dell Inc. (Transaction Group). Under this arrangement, Transaction Group manages all of FGL's call center and processing requirements. FGL has partnered with Hooper Holmes, Inc. (Hooper Holmes) to outsource its life insurance underwriting function. FGL, through its subsidiary FGL Insurance, both cedes reinsurance to other insurance companies and assumes reinsurance from other insurance companies. FGL Insurance provides reinsurance as the reinsurer to four non-affiliate insurance companies.

Salus

Salus, an indirectly wholly owned subsidiary of HGI, is a provider of secured asset-based loans to the middle market across a range of industries with financing throughout the capital structure. The Salus platform also serves as an asset manager to certain institutional investors, such as community and regional banks, insurance companies, family offices, private equity funds and hedge funds who may lack the infrastructure and dedicated competency within senior secured lending. Salus provides secured asset-based loans to the middle market. Salus focuses its credit analysis on the value of accounts receivable and inventory (or other assets) and estimates how much liquidity it can provide against those assets. Salus' loans are used across a range of industries for general working capital or seasonal needs, acquisitions or opportunisti! c situati! ons, trade finance, turnarounds, dividend recaps, refinancing and debtor-in-possession financing.

PEDIATEX Line

As of December 31, 2011, the only product that the Company marketed and sold in its PEDIATEX line is PEDIATEX TD. PEDIATEX TD is an antihistamine/nasal decongestant combination liquid for oral administration. Each 1 milliliter dose contains the API Tripolidine HC1 and Pseudoephedrine HC1. Tripolidine HC1 is a first generation antihistamine in the alkylamine class. Pseudoephedrine, a decongestant, is a sympathomimetic, which acts on alpha-adrenergic receptors in the mucosa of the respiratory tract, producing vasoconstriction and having minimal eff! ect on be! ta-receptors. It therefore functions as an oral nasal decongestant with minimal central nervous system stimulation.

REZYST Line

REZYST IM is a probiotic blend that promotes the dietary management of patients with the distinctive nutritional requirements associated with the gastro-intestinal flora. It is formulated to improve the digestive health of patients by replacing the active cultures altered by diet, stress, and antibiotics.

Product Candidates in Development

Product candidates in development include Theobromine. Theobromine is an alkaloid naturally present in dark chocolate which is an existing human metabolite of caffeine. The Company is working on several other product candidates, which includes a prescription product for the pediatrics market. In March 2012, the Company entered into a product development agreement with a private company for this product.

    Shares of�Pernix Therapeutics� (NASDAQ: PTX  ) soared 31% yesterday after the company revealed that it had bought the U.S. rights to�GlaxoSmithKline's (NYSE: GSK  ) Treximet (which helps treat migraines in adults) for $250 million upfront (and some potential additional payments later). The importance of this purchase cannot easily be overstate for Pernix -- the company had $85 million in revenue last year, while Treximet on its own brought in $79 million -- and Pernix clearly sees some additional upside potential for the drug, whether it's through a potential indication expansion (to pediatric patients) or through synergies with Pernix's current salesforce.
